Description
Near Purgatory is a colorful, atmospheric view of one of the many sites my husband researches for birds and butterflies. I have many great memories of all the outings he has taken me on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Clyde Kessler is a well known naturalist in The New River Valley and his discovery of the endangered Mitchel Satyr butterfly in 1998 is considered to be one of the most important wildlife finds in the second half of the twentieth century in Virginia.
He has give me many beautiful inspirations for paintings of this fantastic mountain region. I love the way the colors dissolve into the colored light in this painting. I live in the most beautiful place in the world!
