Canoes, Mountain Lake Sketch is a serene look at Mountain Lake Resort in Giles County, VA. This resort was the setting for the movie, Dirty Dancing with Patrick Swayze. The water level has gone down but the resort is still beautiful and very popular.
I used to spend a lot of time swimming the lake with friends. My husband, son, and I have stayed at the motel several times. This painting has wonderful color contrast and the surface is a subtle impasto.
This small painting is the sketch for the large painting I sold a number of years ago. I finally found a good photograph of the painting so I will now have both paintings in my portfolio.
