Artist's Description
A Pair is a colorful study of two bartlett pears. I am especially pleased with the color contrast in this work and the sensuous surface. I love to work with complementary colors and patterns. The pears are positioned so that they seem to turn in on each other in a maze of lines and squares that take on a type of movement that I work hard to achieve in still life paintings.
I always try to energize everyday objects by the way I paint them. One of my favorite artists is Paul Cezanne and I especially like his still lifes. The compositions are perfect examples of thoughtful spacing and the colors sing out in every one of them.
