Canoes, Mountain Lake is a serene look at Mountain Lake Resort in Giles County, VA. This resort was the setting for the movie, Dirty Dancing starring Patrick Swayze. The water level has gone down but the resort is still beautiful and very popular.
I used to spend a lot of time swimming the lake with friends. My husband, son, and I have stayed at the motel several times. This painting has wonderful color contrast and the surface is a subtle impasto.
I had posted a preliminary sketch of this painting since I didn't have a good photograph of this painting. I recently found one so I will have both paintings in my portfolio.
